Officers and Staff

Alan B. Hughes, President
Alan B. Hughes began serving as President of the Arkansas AFL-CIO in June of 1996. Prior to that, he served two years as Vice President of the State Federation. A member of Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy International Union (USW) Local 1327, he has held various local union offices, as well as President of the Texarkana Trades and Labor Council. Alan lives in Bismarck, he has two daughters and two grandsons.

David Stephens, Vice President
David W. Stephens was elected Vice President of the Arkansas AFL-CIO in May of 2009; he currently serves as Assistant Business Manager and Secretary Treasurer of Local 295, IBEW in Little Rock. David resides in Guy along with his wife Amy and two daughters.

Crystal McDaniel, Secretary
Crystal McDaniel, Secretary, joined the staff of the State Federation in 2001. Crystal was brought up in a IBEW family and now she is a member of the Office and Professional Employees Union, Local 105. She graduated from Dollarway High School in 1996. Crystal lives in White Hall.

Jessica Akers, Secretary-Treasurer

Jessica joined the Arkansas AFL-CIO staff as the Political/Mobilization Coordinator. Jessica worked with Working America, a community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, concentrating on member recruitment/mobilization, issue-based campaigns as well as GOTV campaigns. She is a former CWA member, a member of OPEIU Local 105 and a graduate of the University of Memphis with a degree in International Economic Development. Jessica is passionate about working with all of the Labor Councils, Locals, and community affiliates to help engage members and strengthen the Labor Movement in Arkansas. Jessica resides in downtown Little Rock.
